Stateline is the resort district on US Highway 50 at the California line, less than a square mile at about 6,284 feet. Trees here stand over places where a lot of people walk and park. That changes what pruning is for.
At a glance
- About 8% owner-occupied: a town of managed properties
- Clearance over parking, walkways, lighting and signs
- One written plan for the whole property
- Nevada side only
What does a property manager need from pruning?
A property manager needs dead wood removed over paths, entrances and parking, clearance over drive lanes and around lights and signs, roof and deck clearance, a written estimate for the owner or board, and a clean-up.
- Dead wood out of every tree over a path, an entrance or a parking stall.
- Clearance over drive lanes and delivery routes, and around lights, cameras and signs.
- Roof and deck clearance on every building.
- A record: an estimate that lists the trees and the work, for the owner or the board.
- Clean-up: brush chipped and hauled, pavement left clear.
We work for commercial clients and associations across the region. See tree service for commercial properties and tree service for HOAs and property managers.
How does the TRPA trimming rule apply to a commercial site?
The same way it applies to a house. A permit is required to remove live branches from the upper two-thirds of a tree's height. Dead branches, branches within 10 feet of a building, deck or chimney outlet, and branches rubbing on utility lines inside the property are the published exceptions.
Trees that were planted or kept as a condition of a development permit are a separate case under TRPA's rules, and resort and condominium sites often have them. Check the property's permit history before planning anything beyond dead wood and building clearance. The agency decides.
Why the numbers point to managed property
The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 estimates for Stateline show about 290 housing units, about 8% owner-occupied and about 18% single-family detached. They are small-sample figures, but the picture is plain: most trees here belong to a business, an association or a landlord, and the person arranging the work answers to someone else. A detailed, easy-to-read estimate is what that person needs.
Season, snow and timing the work
The Daggett Pass station, 2.8 miles away and about 1,050 feet above Stateline, averages 21.8 inches of precipitation a year. Snow load and plow piles both damage trees along parking areas; see protecting trees from plow and snow-load damage. We prune most conifers in early spring and summer, and remove dead or hazardous limbs in any month. We also offer snow removal in Stateline; ask whether your address is on the snow route when you call.

Tahoe tree permit check: measure your tree
In the Lake Tahoe Basin, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) requires a permit to remove a live tree over 14 inches in diameter at breast height (4.5 feet up the trunk). On lakeshore lots the limit is 6 inches for trees between the house and the lake. Wrap a tape around the trunk at 4.5 feet and enter the number.
Enter the measurement to see the diameter.
This is a measuring aid, not a ruling. TRPA and your fire protection district decide. A dead tree that could fall on a house does not need a TRPA permit. TRPA tree rules
