What does a commercial site usually need?

A commercial site usually needs dead wood removed, crowns raised, branches cut back from buildings and signs, declining trees assessed, storm debris cleared and a snow and ice plan. The list below gives each item.

The arborist walks the site first. Ask for the trees to be listed in order of concern, so a limited budget goes to the ones that matter. We also write tree and shrub care plans for properties with many trees.

How do we keep a working site open?

With equipment that shortens the job. A crane can lift a tree out in sections without dropping anything across a drive aisle, and our own argument for the method is that it takes less time and has less impact on the surroundings. The 75-foot boom truck lets the crew work from the pavement. Chips and logs leave on our own trucks.

What paperwork can you ask for?

Ask for proof of insurance and expect to get it. This guide explains what a certificate should show. The Nevada State Contractors Board's consumer guide lists tree removal and trimming among work that does not need a contractor's license, so the documents that matter are the business license, the insurance certificate and the arborist's ISA credential, which you can verify with the ISA.

In the City of Reno, work on trees in a City right-of-way needs a Tree Work Permit and a Certified Arborist. At Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency's tree removal rules apply.
