Battle Born Tree Service LLC

Tree service for HOAs and property managers

Battle Born Tree Service works with HOAs and property managers on common-area trees, greenbelts and rental properties: pruning, removals, defensible space, tree and shrub care plans and 24-hour storm response. A certified arborist assesses the trees and writes a detailed estimate a board can read.

A board or a manager needs three things from a tree company: a clear list of what is wrong, a plan that can be spread over more than one budget year, and a crew that leaves the common area clean. The arborist's walk-through is where that starts.

How does a community tree plan come together?

It starts with a call or the estimate form, then an arborist walks the common areas, you receive a detailed estimate, the office schedules the crew and the crew does the work and removes the debris. The steps below go through each stage.

  1. The manager or a board member calls 775.232.8243 or sends the estimate form.
  2. An arborist walks the common areas and looks at each tree of concern: dead wood, weak forks, decay, clearance over streets and paths.
  3. You receive a detailed, easy to understand estimate. Ask for the work to be grouped by urgency if the board needs to phase it.
  4. The office schedules the crew, and you can pass the dates to residents.
  5. The crew does the work and removes the debris.

For communities with many trees, ask about an in-depth arborist consultation and a written care plan.

Why does defensible space fall on the association?

Because fire arrives through the open space. Many Northern Nevada communities back onto sagebrush or forest that the association, not the homeowner, owns. The USDA Forest Service places about 61% of Incline Village's buildings, 65% of Golden Valley's and 94% of Washoe Valley's in the direct-exposure zone, and ranks Spanish Springs' risk to homes above 98.6% of US communities.

On a greenbelt the work is thinning, limbing up, and mowing or masticating brush along the edge that faces the houses. See defensible space and fire mitigation, and check whether your fire district offers a free evaluation: evaluations and chipping programs by fire district.

Whose rules apply to a community's trees?

Usually three sets: the CC&Rs, the city or county, and at Lake Tahoe the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. The City of Reno requires a Tree Work Permit and a Certified Arborist for trees in a City right-of-way. TRPA requires a permit to remove live trees over 14 inches in diameter at breast height. The agency decides in each case.

Owners often ask the manager whether they may remove their own tree. HOA tree rules: what to check first is written to be forwarded.

What about rentals and resort properties?

Stateline is resort and rental country: only about 8% of its occupied homes are owner-occupied in the Census Bureau's ACS 2020-2024 sample, which is small. When the person who calls is not the person who lives there, send photos with the estimate form and tell the office how to reach the site. After severe storms our priority is existing clients, though we serve anyone in need.

Questions people ask

Still have a question? Call 775.232.8243. Phones are answered seven days a week.

Can the estimate be split into phases?

Estimates are tailored to each client. Tell the arborist the board wants the work grouped by urgency, and it can be written that way.

Will you attend a board meeting?

Ask the office. The arborist can explain the findings to whoever makes the decision, and the estimate itself is written to be easy to understand.

Do residents get the same service on their own lots?

Yes. Any owner can request a free estimate for trees on a private lot. See tree service for homeowners.

Who do we call when a tree falls across a private road?

If anyone is hurt call 911, and if a power line is involved stay away and call NV Energy. Then call our 24-hour line at 775.232.8243.
