Tree fallen across a red pickup at a house (storm damage call)

Battle Born Tree Service offers emergency tree service across Northern Nevada from Carson City, including removing trees from houses, clearing roads and driveways and hauling away storm debris. Northern Nevada is no stranger to the occasional violent storm: heavy wind, rain, snow or hail. Fallen trees and limbs can do serious damage, and cleaning them up on your own can be dangerous. Our storm clean-up work takes high priority when the weather turns.

What should you do first when a tree comes down?

First call 911 if anyone is hurt, stay away from any power line and call NV Energy, get people out from under the tree, and do not climb on it or cut it. Then take photos and call us at 775.232.8243; the steps are below.

  1. If anyone is hurt or trapped, call 911.
  2. If the tree or a limb is touching a power line, or a line is down, stay well away and call NV Energy. Treat every line as live.
  3. Get people and pets out of the part of the house under the tree, and keep them away from the tree outside.
  4. Do not climb on the tree or the roof, and do not try to cut the tree free. Wood under load can move without warning.
  5. Take photos from a distance for your insurer.
  6. Call us at 775.232.8243.

What does our emergency service cover?

Emergency work includes removing trees from houses, clearing roads and driveways, and pruning or removing trees that could lead to personal injury or more property damage. We remove the trees, the limbs and the debris and leave you with a clear space.

A tree lying on a roof is often a crane job. The crane lifts the trunk off in sections instead of dragging it across the roof. Our crane is part of our own fleet, which is described on the crane-assisted tree removal page.

Who gets served first after a big storm?

Following severe storms, our priority is responding to existing clients. We are equipped to provide services to anyone in need, and we do. Call as early as you can, tell the office exactly what the tree is resting on, and say whether a driveway or road is blocked.

The phone line is staffed seven days a week. If you reach the message box, your call is returned within 8 hours. The same number is the 24-hour emergency line.

What storms break trees here?

Wind and snow load do most of the damage. Downslope wind off the Sierra can snap dead tops and tear out weak forks. Heavy wet snow breaks limbs when it falls on trees that still have leaves, or on evergreens that were never thinned. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals put average snowfall at 14.0 inches a year at the Carson City station, 20.9 inches at Reno-Tahoe International Airport and 46.4 inches at Virginia City.

What comes after the emergency?

The emergency visit makes the property clear. A storm-damaged tree may need more work once things calm down. Talk to the arborist about stump grinding, dead wooding, and trimming and shaping to reduce damage from the next storm. A split tree that is worth keeping may be a candidate for cabling and bracing.

If you are filing a claim, our page on storm damage and insurance claims explains what insurers usually ask for. Your insurer decides what is covered.

Our main website also has a page on this service: Storm clean-up (main site page).

Emergency tree service and storm clean-up questions

Still have a question? Call 775.232.8243. Phones are answered seven days a week.

Is the emergency line really open 24 hours?

Emergency services are offered 24 hours a day. Call 775.232.8243. It is the same number as the office.

A tree is on a power line. Who do I call?

Call 911 if there is fire, sparks or anyone in danger, and call NV Energy. Stay away from the tree and anything it is touching. NV Energy deals with its own lines. Call us once the line is taken care of.

Do you help people who are not already customers?

Yes. After severe storms existing clients come first, but we are equipped to serve anyone in need.

Can you clear a road or driveway blocked by a tree or snow?

Yes. Clearing roads and driveways is part of our emergency service, and we use our snow removal equipment when snow is the problem.

Will you tell me if the rest of my tree is safe?

A certified arborist can inspect the tree in person and give you a recommendation. Nobody can judge a damaged tree from a phone call, so keep clear of it until it has been looked at.
