Tree service in Stateline, NV
Battle Born Tree Service provides tree service in Stateline, Nevada, the resort district at the south end of Lake Tahoe's Nevada shore. By the numbers
Stateline at a glance
Stateline covers about 0.72 square miles at roughly 6,284 feet, where US 50 crosses into California. About 500 people live here year-round. Our work stays on the Nevada side of the line.
Who owns property in Stateline?
Much of it is held by landlords, associations and businesses. Only about 8% of Stateline's occupied homes are owner-occupied and only about 18% are detached single-family houses, the lowest figures of any community we serve (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024; a small sample). Nearly everything else is apartments, condominiums and attached units.
On a managed property the questions are different. Which trees overhang the parking lot, the walkways and the entrance? Who is responsible if a limb falls? Can the work be scheduled around guests? We handle those jobs across the region: see commercial properties and HOAs and property managers. Estimates are free, detailed and easy to understand, so they can go to a board or an owner.
How old are the buildings, and the trees around them?
About half of Stateline's housing was built before 1980 and the median year is 1980. The conifers left around those buildings have had at least 45 years to grow.
In a built-up district, a tree boxed in by pavement and walls is hard to reach with ordinary equipment and cannot simply be felled. Our crane and 75-foot Altec boom truck let the crew work from the pavement and lift wood out over a building. See crane-assisted removal in Stateline and tree trimming in Stateline.
What is winter like for trees and pavement here?
The Daggett Pass station, 2.8 miles away and about 1,050 feet higher at the top of the Kingsbury Grade, records 21.80 inches of precipitation a year and a mean annual temperature of 43.3 degrees (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). No snowfall normal is published for the Nevada south shore.
Snow removal is one of our winter services, available 24 hours a day in snow season, with a custom flat rate for ongoing customers. Our site names Reno, Carson City and the surrounding areas, so ask whether your address is on the snow route when you call: snow removal in Stateline. Plows and de-icing salt are also hard on trees at the edge of a lot. Our guides on plow damage and ice melt and trees cover what to watch.
What does the wildfire data say about Stateline?
The USDA Forest Service rates risk to homes in Stateline higher than 95.8% of US communities. About 18% of buildings are in the direct exposure zone and 81% in the indirect zone. In a built-up district, that indirect figure is the one to read: the main threat is embers landing on and between buildings.
Four fire perimeters of 300 acres or more have a mapped center within about 10 miles since 1980, including the Gondola Fire of 2002 at 643 mapped acres and the Autumn Hills Fire of 1996 at 3,805. For the principles, read what defensible space is.
How far is Stateline from our yard?
About 29 miles, or about 45 minutes without traffic, from 6301 US Highway 50 East in Carson City. We also offer tree removal, stump grinding, arborist consultations and emergency tree service here.

Rules here
Stateline is within the Tahoe Basin. Under Tahoe Regional Planning Agency rules, a permit is required to take out a live tree over 14 inches in diameter at breast height (4.5 feet). The limit is 6 inches on lakeshore lots, between the building and the lake. A dead tree that could fall on a house needs no permit.
The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District evaluates properties for defensible space and issues those tree permits. The 2023 USDA map places ZIP 89449 in hardiness zone 7a. On any permit question, the agency decides.

Tahoe tree permit check: measure your tree
In the Lake Tahoe Basin, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) requires a permit to remove a live tree over 14 inches in diameter at breast height (4.5 feet up the trunk). On lakeshore lots the limit is 6 inches for trees between the house and the lake. Wrap a tape around the trunk at 4.5 feet and enter the number.
Enter the measurement to see the diameter.
This is a measuring aid, not a ruling. TRPA and your fire protection district decide. A dead tree that could fall on a house does not need a TRPA permit. TRPA tree rules
