Who calls an arborist in Stateline
Property managers, HOAs, condo boards and lodging owners call as often as homeowners. A tree over a walkway or a parking row is a duty-of-care question as much as a tree-health question, and a written proposal from a certified arborist gives a board something to act on.
An in-depth consultation suits the larger sites: the arborist walks the whole property and produces a personalized proposal and a tree and shrub care plan. A basic consultation suits one or two trees of concern.
Housing and tree age
About 51% of Stateline homes were built before 1980, and the median home dates from 1980 (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024; small place, approximate). Mixed-age construction means mixed-age trees: older conifers that predate the buildings and landscape trees planted around newer ones. The arborist treats those two groups differently.
What the arborist checks first
Targets before trees: what is under the crown if a limb fails, whether that is a roof, a car, a path or a doorway. Then the crown, the unions, the trunk and the roots. Findings turn into a short list of recommendations ranked by how soon they matter, so you know what to do this season and what can wait.
Rules, fire and the lake climate
Stateline is in the Tahoe Basin, so a live tree over 14 inches in diameter at breast height needs a Tahoe Regional Planning Agency permit before removal. A dead tree that could fall on a house does not. The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District evaluates properties for defensible space and issues the related tree permits. The agency decides.
The USDA Forest Service rates Stateline's wildfire risk to homes higher than 95.8% of US communities, and 18.3% of buildings are in the direct exposure zone. The Daggett Pass station, 2.8 miles away, averages 21.8 inches of precipitation a year (NOAA 1991-2020 normals).
What happens after the Stateline visit?
Within the proposal, work is listed in the order that matters most. A limb over a sidewalk comes before a cosmetic cut, and a dead tree comes before both. Pruning, dead wooding, cabling and bracing, root barriers and removal are all things our crew does with its own equipment, so the same company that advises you can do the work.

Tahoe tree permit check: measure your tree
In the Lake Tahoe Basin, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) requires a permit to remove a live tree over 14 inches in diameter at breast height (4.5 feet up the trunk). On lakeshore lots the limit is 6 inches for trees between the house and the lake. Wrap a tape around the trunk at 4.5 feet and enter the number.
Enter the measurement to see the diameter.
This is a measuring aid, not a ruling. TRPA and your fire protection district decide. A dead tree that could fall on a house does not need a TRPA permit. TRPA tree rules
