Bobcat with snow blower clearing deep snow in front of cabins

If you live in Northern Nevada you know how erratic the winters are. One day it is 60 degrees and the next there is a blizzard with a layer of snow on the ground. The same crew and heavy equipment that clear trees in summer clear lots, driveways and walks in winter.

What snow removal services do we offer?

A complete service: snow plowing, hauling, shoveling and maintenance, clearing sidewalks and driveways, salting and removing ice. We can plow it, shovel it and haul it away.

ServiceWhat it means

HaulingSnow loaded and trucked off site when piles would take up parking or block sight lines
ShovelingWalks, steps, ramps and entries cleared by hand
Salting and ice removalIce treated and removed on drive lanes and walking surfaces

Who do we clear snow for?

Homes and businesses both. On the commercial side that means corporate offices, shopping centers, medical facilities, retail stores and industrial properties. Property managers and homeowner associations are a natural fit, because one call covers the lots, the lanes and the walks.

We offer a custom flat rate to ongoing customers. Call the office to plan your snow removal schedule. What a good agreement should spell out is covered in commercial snow removal: what a contract should cover.

How much snow falls here?

It depends a great deal on elevation. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals give these yearly averages by weather station.

How much snow falls here?
StationElevationAverage snowfall a year
Sparks4,357 ft6.8 in.
Carson City4,761 ft14.0 in.
Reno-Tahoe International Airport4,410 ft20.9 in.
Minden4,709 ft21.8 in.
Reno, National Weather Service office4,987 ft29.7 in.
Virginia City6,340 ft46.4 in.
Tahoe City, California (across the lake, for reference)6,230 ft179.0 in.

The stations on the Nevada shore of Lake Tahoe do not report a snowfall normal. Glenbrook averages 18.46 inches of precipitation a year and Daggett Pass above Kingsbury 21.80, roughly double the valley floor. Averages hide the real problem, which is the single storm that drops a season's worth in two days. More station figures are on our climate normals page.

Whose job is the sidewalk?

In Carson City it falls to the property owner. Carson City's municipal code places the duty for sidewalk snow and ice on the owner of the adjoining property, in sections 11.12.070 and 11.12.130. The City of Reno says shoveling sidewalks and driveways is not a service it provides, and it does not remove plow berms from them. For a business, an icy walk is a liability as well as a chore. See whose job is the sidewalk?

What about trees and snow?

This is where a tree company is useful in winter. Heavy wet snow breaks limbs, and a limb across a driveway is a tree job and a snow job at once. Our emergency service includes clearing roads and driveways with our snow removal equipment.

Plows and salt affect trees too. Piled snow and blade strikes damage trunks, and de-icing salt builds up in the soil along drives. Two guides cover it: protecting trees from plow and snow-load damage and ice melt, salt and your trees.

Our main website also has a page on this service: Snow removal services (main site page).
