Crane-assisted tree removal in Northern Nevada
Crane-assisted tree removal lifts a tree out in sections, up and over the house, instead of lowering each piece on ropes. From its Carson City yard, Battle Born Tree Service uses its own crane to remove large trees across Northern Nevada near homes, wires and other obstacles in less time and with less impact on the yard.

We think it is the best way to take down a big tree in a tight spot. A certified arborist assesses the tree and the site first, then the crane, the climber and the ground crew work as one team.

The pine tree they removed towered over our house by approximately 50 feet-but no problem-a crane arrived and they separated the tree in several pieces and air lifted it up over the house and right into the shredder.
Why remove a tree with a crane?
Traditional large tree removal is time-consuming and labor-intensive. It takes complex rigging to lower every piece past the roof, the fence and the neighbor's yard, and it often means large trucks and heavy machinery driven across the property.
A crane changes that. It greatly reduces the time it takes to remove the tree, and it decreases the impact on the surroundings. Because the crane does the lifting, we can provide a safe and efficient, no impact tree removal at a lower cost than traditional methods.
How a crane removal works, step by step
- The team chooses the set-up spot for the crane, weighing elevation, overhead obstacles and how close the structures are.
- Outriggers and other equipment stabilize the crane.
- The climber attaches the crane's line at the cut point, accounting for the weight of the piece, the direction it will move and the surroundings.
- The climber makes the cut while the crane operator holds the piece in position. Climber, operator and ground crew stay in clear communication.
- The operator moves the section to the drop zone, where it is cut up and removed from the property.
When a crane is the right call
- A large tree stands close to the house, a garage or a neighbor's roof
- There is no room to drop or lower big pieces
- The tree is dead or brittle and should not be climbed more than necessary
- Wires, fences or landscaping sit under the crown
- A storm has put a tree on a structure
When a crane is not needed, the arborist may plan the job with the 75-foot boom truck or a climber instead. The estimate explains which and why.
It takes an organized team
Crane removal is efficient, but it has to be handled carefully. An inadequate team puts the whole job at risk. Our certified arborists conduct a thorough assessment before work begins, and the same crew that plans the lift carries it out.
Tahoe trees and permits
In the Lake Tahoe Basin, a live tree over 14 inches in diameter at 4.5 feet usually needs a permit from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency before removal. Ask us about it when you request your estimate.

Crane-assisted tree removal questions
Still have a question? Call 775.232.8243. Phones are answered seven days a week.
Is crane removal more expensive than climbing?
Not necessarily. A crane cuts the time on site, and we can often provide a crane removal at a lower cost than traditional methods. Your free estimate will show the plan for your tree.
Will the crane damage my lawn or driveway?
The point of a crane is less impact. It eliminates the need to drive other large machinery across the yard, and it sets up on outriggers at the spot the team chooses.
Can a crane work near power lines and my house?
Cranes can work near homes, wires and other obstacles. The arborist checks the site first. NV Energy handles its own primary power lines.
Do you own the crane?
Yes. The crane is part of our own fleet.
