Emergency tree service in Reno, NV

Emergency tree service in Reno is available 24 hours a day from Battle Born Tree Service at 775.232.8243, with a crane and a 75-foot boom truck for trees on houses. If anyone is hurt call 911 first; if a line is down, stay away and call NV Energy; if the tree stood in a City right-of-way, the City of Reno is part of the answer too.

Tree fallen across a red pickup at a house (storm damage call)

Reno adds two questions that most towns do not. Whose tree is it: yours, your landlord's or the city's? And how far is help: our yard is in Carson City, about 33 miles south. This page answers both honestly.

At a glance

  • 24-hour emergency line: 775.232.8243
  • About 43 minutes from our Carson City yard without traffic
  • FEMA rates Washoe County winter weather risk Very High
  • Street trees in the City right-of-way are a City of Reno matter

Whose tree fell?

The City of Reno does not require a permit to remove a tree on private property, so a fallen yard tree can be dealt with at once. A tree in a City right-of-way or on City property is different. Work on it needs a Tree Work Permit and a Certified Arborist, and Reno Urban Forestry (775-321-8373) is the office to ask. If a street tree is down across the road, report it to the City.

About half of Reno's households rent (American Community Survey 2020-2024). If you are a tenant, make the safety calls yourself and then reach the owner or property manager. They authorize the removal. We can send the estimate straight to them.

What storms do the damage in Reno?

Reno-Tahoe International Airport averages 20.9 inches of snow a year and the National Weather Service office in north Reno averages 29.7 (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). FEMA's National Risk Index rates Washoe County's winter weather risk as Very High and its strong wind risk as Relatively Moderate.

Snow that sticks to branches in leaf, and the downslope wind locals call the Washoe Zephyr, account for most broken trees. Read preparing trees for downslope wind before the season, not after.

Old Reno, new Reno

About 37% of Reno homes were built before 1980 and about 36% since 2000. In the older blocks an emergency is usually a large limb or a whole mature tree on a roof, a garage or a car. In the newer subdivisions it is more often a young tree blown flat across a sidewalk or a fence. The first needs a crane or a boom truck and an arborist's plan. The second needs a crew and a chipper. Tell the office which you have.

How far away is Battle Born?

Our yard is at 6301 US Highway 50 East in Carson City, about 33.5 miles and 43 minutes from central Reno when the road is clear. We say that up front because nobody should plan around a time we did not give. Emergency service is offered around the clock, the phone is staffed seven days a week, and after a severe storm existing clients come first, then everyone else who needs help.

Emergency tree service questions in Reno

Still have a question? Call 775.232.8243. Phones are answered seven days a week.

Do I need a permit to remove a fallen tree in Reno?

Not for a tree on private property. A tree in a City right-of-way or on City property falls under the City's Tree Work Permit rule, and the City decides how it is handled.

I rent in Reno and a tree came down on the house. What do I do?

Call 911 if anyone is hurt, get out from under the damaged part of the house, then call your landlord or property manager. They approve the tree work.

Do you bring the crane to Reno for emergencies?

When the arborist's assessment calls for it. The crane is part of our own fleet, so we do not have to find one to rent on a storm day.

Is there a different number for Reno emergencies?

No. 775.232.8243 is the office line and the 24-hour emergency line for every town we serve.
