What the district offers residents
- Fuels management
- The district's programs page lists Fuels Management with a Trailer Drop Program and a Defensible Space Program. On the Fuels Management page, the district said it had placed its trailer program and defensible space clearing on hold and asked residents to check back for updates.
- Defensible space information
- The district says the size of defensible space varies with property size, location and topography, that some owners may need more than 200 feet, and that a driveway longer than 150 feet needs a turnaround big enough for fire equipment. It points to the Living With Fire site for a specific calculation.
- Burn permits
- Residential and commercial burn permits showed as closed for the season, with a note to check back in November 2026.
- Contact
- The district office is in Dayton. Use its contact page rather than a number from an older listing.

Dayton and the Lyon County towns east of Carson City are some of the fastest-built places in our service area, and some of the most exposed to fire. The district's information is short, so this page adds the public data around it.
What do the numbers say for the district?
The USFS Wildfire Risk to Communities data rates Dayton's risk to homes higher than 98.9 percent of US communities, with 27.4 percent of its 6,702 buildings in the direct-exposure zone. Stagecoach is 93.5 percent (39.7 percent directly exposed) and Silver Springs 87.2 percent, with 67.3 percent of its 3,914 buildings directly exposed. Mound House has no Census or USFS record of its own, and the Lyon County figures apply.
Mapped fires of 300 acres or more with centers within about 10 miles include Linehan (2006, 5,863 acres) and Moundhouse (1983, 2,345 acres) near Dayton, and Gooseberry (1985, 29,296 acres) and Ramsey (2000, 7,621 acres) for Stagecoach and Silver Springs. Those are mapped acres only.
How do trees and brush fit in?
Dayton's median year built is about 2002, so many of its trees are young. The Living With Fire guide asks owners to keep branches trimmed within 10 feet of the home and to separate trees from each other. Where a parcel is large and open, brush mowing and mastication suit it.

What does Battle Born do here?
We do defensible space and fire mitigation, lot clearing, brush mowing, masticating, trimming and removal of dead and hazardous trees, with a certified arborist assessing each job. Dayton is about 12 minutes from our Carson City yard without traffic, Stagecoach about 34 and Silver Springs about 41. We haul away what we cut when it is in the estimate.
