Lot clearing and brush mowing in Indian Hills, NV
In Indian Hills, lot clearing and brush mowing usually means the edges: the strip behind a back fence, a vacant parcel between houses or the open ground an association looks after. Battle Born Tree Service is about 15 minutes away in Carson City and brings a tracked brush mower, a chipper and a hand crew.

Indian Hills lies along US 395 just south of the Carson City line, in Douglas County. It is a neighborhood of subdivisions more than ranchettes, so the brush work here is smaller in area and closer to houses than in the valley communities to the south.
At a glance
- About 10 miles and 15 minutes from our yard
- One in three buildings in the direct wildfire exposure zone
- Edge strips, vacant parcels and common areas
- Brush chipped and hauled, not left in piles
Which Indian Hills properties need brush work?
The ones along the outside row. The USDA Forest Service places 33.5% of Indian Hills buildings in its direct exposure zone, meaning they stand next to vegetation that can burn, and 66.4% in the indirect zone, where embers and house-to-house spread are the concern. Almost none are rated minimal.
If your back fence faces an open slope, you are probably in the first group. The useful work is a mowed or hand-cut band on your side of the line, with dead brush, dry weeds and wind-blown tumbleweeds taken away.
Who is responsible for the open ground behind the fence?
Whoever owns it. That may be an association, a utility, a private owner or a public agency. We work only at the request of the owner of the ground being cut, so find out who that is before you call.
Associations and managers can book the common areas, drainage strips and entry frontages as one job. See tree service for HOAs and property managers.
Small lots change the method
The Census Bureau counts about 2,700 housing units here, about 87% of them detached houses and about 7% manufactured homes (ACS 2020-2024). Gates are narrow and neighbors are close. A track loader fits on a vacant parcel or an open edge; inside a fenced yard the crew cuts by hand and carries brush to the chipper at the curb.
Near the house, mowing is not the goal at all. The Living With Fire guide from UNR Extension calls for the first 5 feet around a home to be free of weeds, wood mulch, junipers and sage.
| Where | What we do |
|---|---|
| Vacant parcel or open edge | Brush mowing with the tracked Bobcat |
| Fenced back yard | Hand cutting, chipping at the street |
| First 5 feet from the house | Weeds and flammable shrubs removed |
| Overgrown trees on the lot | Pruning or removal |
How dry is it?
The Carson City weather station, about 3 miles from the center of Indian Hills, averages 9.34 inches of precipitation a year (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). Spring growth cures quickly in that climate, and late spring into early summer is the usual window for mowing grass and weeds. Woody brush can be cut in any season.
Fire history on the hills above
Fifteen perimeter records of 300 acres or more since 1980 have a mapped center within about 10 miles of Indian Hills. They include C-Hill in 1988 (1,799 acres, centered about 4 miles away) and Waterfall in 2004 (8,765 acres, about 6 miles).

Lot clearing and brush mowing questions in Indian Hills
Still have a question? Call 775.232.8243. Phones are answered seven days a week.
Can you clear a single vacant lot in Indian Hills?
Yes. One lot is a normal job. Trees, stumps, brush and old debris can all go in the same visit.
Will mowing satisfy a notice from my association?
It is often what the notice asks for, but the association decides. Show us the letter and we will plan the work to match it.
Do you haul the brush away?
Yes. Brush is chipped and hauled unless you ask for chips to be left.
Is there a rule on tree or brush removal in Indian Hills?
We have not found a Douglas County permit for clearing brush on private land. Check your association's rules and ask the county about any grading.
