What makes a removal 'tight' in Gardnerville?
Townhomes, duplexes and manufactured home spaces put a tree a few feet from two or three roofs at once, with carports, sheds, fences and utility pedestals underneath. There is no open ground to lower large pieces into.
The crew handles that by cutting small. A climber, or an arborist in the boom truck bucket when the street is close enough, takes the tree apart in pieces sized to the landing spot. It is slower per foot of tree than working in an open yard, and the estimate reflects the real conditions, which is why we look at every job in person. Our guide to removing a tree in a tight backyard explains the choices.
I rent, or I manage rentals. Who arranges the work?
The property owner authorizes tree removal. If you are a tenant and a tree worries you, tell your landlord or the park manager in writing and include a photo. If you are the landlord, the manager or the community owner, call us: we write the free estimate to you and can schedule around your residents.
If you manage several trees across a community, ask for one visit that covers all of them, with removals and pruning listed separately so a budget can be set.
Why are so many of the trees young?
The median Gardnerville home dates from 2001, and about 18% were built before 1980 (American Community Survey 2020-2024). A neighborhood built since 2000 has trees of twenty-odd years: past the size a homeowner can handle from a ladder, but well short of the giants in older towns.
Removal at this stage is usually a correction. The tree was planted under the eaves, over the sewer line or beside the driveway, and taking it out now is a smaller job than it will be in fifteen years. The older blocks near the middle of town hold the exceptions, where large mature trees call for large tree removal methods.
Is wildfire a reason to remove trees here?
Rarely the main one. The Forest Service places about 92% of Gardnerville's buildings in the minimal exposure zone, the largest share of any Douglas County community we serve, and ranks the town's risk to homes higher than about 90% of US communities. In Gardnerville the usual reasons for removal are a tree's condition and its location.
What about the weather?
The Minden NOAA station, under 2 miles away, averages about 9.3 inches of precipitation and about 21.8 inches of snow a year. Yard trees here depend on irrigation in summer and carry snow in winter. A tree that has been under-watered for several seasons tends to show it as dead wood in the top. See drought stress and dieback.
