Tree removal in Southeast Reno and Hidden Valley, NV
Tree removal in Southeast Reno starts with a house-age fact: about 62% of homes in ZIP 89502 were built before 1980, so many trees are close to fifty years old and removals are often large. Battle Born Tree Service sends a certified arborist to assess each tree before any cut is made.

Removal calls from an older, mostly rented ZIP tend to come with two questions: can the tree come down in a small space, and who has to say yes. Both are answered at the free estimate.
At a glance
- Median home in ZIP 89502 built in 1977
- About 16% of homes built before 1960
- About 36% of households own their home
- About 31 miles and 39 minutes from our yard without traffic
Why are the removals here often big ones?
A tree set beside a house in the 1960s or 1970s has had half a century to grow. In ZIP 89502 about 62% of housing predates 1980 and the median home is from 1977 (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024, ZCTA 89502). Big trunks and long limbs over roofs, fences and neighbors' yards are the usual picture.
The arborist checks the trunk, the root flare, any cracks or decay and what the tree would hit. A tall tree over a roof may come down in pieces lowered by crane or boom truck. Which method is decided on site, not on the phone.
Who can approve a removal in a mostly rented ZIP?
Only about 36% of households here own their home, and the ZIP has more mobile homes than the city average. A tenant cannot order a removal on someone else's land. Ask the owner or the manager to arrange the estimate, or call with the address and we will explain what the arborist would check.
In the street strip between the sidewalk and the curb, the City of Reno may own the tree. Reno requires a Tree Work Permit and a Certified Arborist for right-of-way work, so find out whose tree it is before anyone cuts.
What happens after the tree is down?
Brush and logs are chipped and hauled unless you want to keep the wood. The stump is a separate decision: stump grinding can go in the same estimate, which is tailored to each client. If you are not sure, see stump grinding vs stump removal.
Before grinding, the utility locate matters; our guide to calling 811 before stump grinding explains why.
When is a tree an emergency?
A tree on a house, a car or a fence, or a large limb hanging over a walkway, is a call to 775.232.8243, which is also the 24-hour emergency line. If anyone is hurt, call 911. If a power line is involved, stay away and call NV Energy first.

Rules here
The City of Reno does not require a permit to remove or prune a tree on private property. A tree in a City right-of-way or on City property needs a Tree Work Permit, and the work must be done by a Certified Arborist. Reno Urban Forestry answers questions about which strip of ground is which.
If you are unsure whether your lot is inside the city limits, ask before the work. Association rules, where they exist, still apply. We have an ISA Certified Arborist on staff, WE-11728A. The agency decides.

Still have a question? Call 775.232.8243. Phones are answered seven days a week.
Can the City of Reno stop me from removing a tree on my lot?
Reno does not require a permit for a tree wholly on private property. A tree in a right-of-way or on City property needs a Tree Work Permit and a Certified Arborist. Reno Urban Forestry can confirm the boundary.
Do you haul away the logs and brush?
Yes, brush is chipped and hauled. If you want the wood or the chips left, say so at the estimate.
Does the estimate cost anything?
No. Estimates are free and tailored to each client.
Can you remove a tree in a space too small for a truck?
Often. The arborist checks the access and may use a climber, a boom truck or a crane. The method is chosen after the site has been seen.
