Tree removal in Dayton, NV

Tree removal in Dayton, NV covers two very different jobs: large old trees in the original town by the Carson River, and twenty-year-old trees in the subdivisions built since 2000. Battle Born Tree Service does both from a yard about 7 miles away, about 12 minutes without traffic.

Dayton is our nearest neighbor to the east, straight down US Highway 50 from the yard. More than half of its roughly 6,100 homes have been built since 2000, around a much older core. The USDA Forest Service ranks its wildfire risk to homes among the highest in the state.

At a glance

  • About 7 miles from our yard, about 12 minutes without traffic
  • About 56% of Dayton homes built in 2000 or later
  • Wildfire risk to homes higher than 98.9% of US communities
  • ISA Certified Arborist WE-11728A on staff

What is different about trees in the old town?

Size and age. Only about 10% of Dayton's homes predate 1980, many of them in the old town near the river. Across Northern Nevada, river bottoms are where cottonwoods reach their full spread, with trunks several feet thick and limbs as heavy as whole trees elsewhere.

Taking one down beside an old house is planned around weight. The crane, which we own, lifts each section off the tree under control. The guide on keeping, pruning or removing cottonwoods helps you decide before you call, because many large cottonwoods can be kept with dead wooding and reduction.

And in the newer subdivisions?

The median Dayton home dates from 2002. A tree planted that year now stands well above the roofline, and it was not always planted with that in mind. Common requests are a tree too close to the foundation, one crowding the neighbor's fence, or a double-trunked tree that has started to split.

These are smaller jobs for a crew with a chipper. The stump can be ground on the same visit. See stump grinding in Dayton.

How serious is Dayton's wildfire exposure?

The Forest Service ranks Dayton's risk to homes higher than 98.9% of US communities and about 90% of Nevada communities. About 27% of buildings are in the direct exposure zone and about 73% in the indirect zone. No building is rated minimal. Ten fires of 300 acres or more have been mapped within about 10 miles since 1980, among them the 2006 Linehan Fire at 5,863 acres and the 2007 Industrial Fire at 428 acres, centered about 3 miles from town.

Where a home faces open sagebrush, a dead tree or an overgrown juniper hedge by the house is worth removing for fire reasons alone. Defensible space in Dayton covers the full job.

What does 12 minutes from the yard mean for you?

Tree removal questions in Dayton

Still have a question? Call 775.232.8243. Phones are answered seven days a week.

Can you remove a very large cottonwood in old Dayton?

Yes. Large tree removal is a core part of our work and we own a crane and a 75-foot boom truck for it. A certified arborist assesses the tree and the access first.

Is a permit needed to remove a tree in Dayton?

Ask Lyon County if the tree stands in a road right-of-way, and your homeowner association if you have one. They decide what applies.

My subdivision tree is splitting. Does it have to come out?

Not always. Some split trees can be supported with cabling and bracing. The arborist will tell you whether that is reasonable or whether removal is the better course.
