Backhoe and skid steer services
Backhoe and skid steer services from Battle Born Tree Service put our own machines and operators to work loading logs, moving debris, clearing brush, digging out stumps and pushing snow. They are the ground side of our tree and land work across Carson City, Reno and the nearby valleys.

The saw work is half of a tree job. The other half is moving what the saw leaves: tons of logs, piles of brush, stumps and roots. Our heavy equipment is why big jobs finish quickly and why the yard is clean when the trucks pull out.

What do we use these machines for?
We use these machines for loading logs, carrying brush, lot clearing, brush mowing and masticating, digging out stumps and roots, clearing storm debris and snow removal. The list below gives each use.
- Loading logs and rounds after a large tree removal
- Carrying brush to the chipper from the far corners of a property
- Lot clearing: pulling brush, moving slash, cleaning up old debris piles
- Brush mowing and masticating with the heads on the Bobcat
- Digging out stumps and main roots where grinding is not enough
- Clearing storm debris from roads and driveways
- Snow removal: pushing, loading and hauling snow
Backhoe, skid steer or track loader?
The backhoe digs and lifts, the skid steer is small and quick for tight sites and snow, and the Bobcat T870 track loader works on soft or rough ground and takes the mowing heads. The table below compares them.
| Machine | Strength | Where it earns its place |
|---|---|---|
| Backhoe | Digs and lifts | Stumps and roots dug out, heavy pieces lifted into trucks |
| Skid steer | Small, quick, turns in its own length | Tight yards, driveways, parking lots, snow |
| Bobcat T870 track loader | Tracks spread the weight; takes grapple and mowing heads | Soft or rough ground, logs, brush mowing and masticating |
The estimate names the machine the job needs. Photos are on the equipment page.
How do machines keep a tree job short?
A cottonwood trunk section can weigh more than a crew can roll. With a grapple the loader picks it up, carries it to the street and sets it in the truck. What would take a crew hours of cutting to carry size takes minutes.
Customers notice. One wrote: "Arrived early with all the equipment. Professional in every way. Crew had the teamwork down to an art." (Lisa D., Google review)
What about the lawn and the driveway?
Any machine leaves some mark on soft ground, and we would sooner plan for it than surprise you. A track loader spreads its weight over a larger footprint than wheels do. On a crane job the logs are flown to the drop zone, so no loader has to cross the yard at all.
Tell us where the sprinklers, the septic tank and the leach field are. Buried utility lines should be marked through 811 before any digging, and the utilities need a few days to respond.
Can you book machine work without a tree job?
Backhoe and skid steer services are listed among our services in their own right. If you have a clearing, loading or hauling job with no standing tree in it, describe it to the office at 775.232.8243. If it fits our machines and crew you will get a free estimate, and if it is outside what we do we will tell you so.

Backhoe and skid steer services questions
Still have a question? Call 775.232.8243. Phones are answered seven days a week.
Do your machines come with an operator?
Yes. This is a service, not an equipment rental.
Can you dig out a stump completely?
Yes, where the site allows a machine. For most yards grinding is the lighter option. The estimate will say which fits your plans.
Do you haul away what you load?
Yes. Our dump trucks haul logs, brush and debris from the job.
Will a skid steer fit through my gate?
Tell us the gate width when you call, or send a photo. The arborist checks access on the estimate visit.
