We keep the details of the wood business with the office, because stock changes. These answers explain what to ask and what rules apply.
Do you sell firewood?
Yes. Our site describes a variety of Reno firewood for the cold winter months, sold to customers in the Reno, Carson City and nearby areas. Firewood and wood chips are both on our service list. The office manager is available most days from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, and the office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Call 775.232.8243 to ask. See firewood and wood chips.
How much does firewood cost?
Call the office. We do not publish firewood prices, because they depend on what is available. Ask for the price in writing if you are comparing sellers, and ask exactly how much wood that price buys. Our guide on how big is a cord of wood shows how to compare quantities. A full cord is 128 cubic feet. Terms like truckload or rick mean different amounts to different sellers.
What kinds of wood do you have, and is it seasoned?
We have not published the species, how long the wood has dried or the sizes sold, so ask when you call. Seasoning matters, since wet wood burns poorly and builds creosote in a chimney. Ask the office what is available now and how it was stored. Our guides explain firewood species in the Sierra and Great Basin and how to season and stack firewood.
Do you deliver?
We have not published delivery terms, so ask the office when you call. Tell them your address and how you would like the wood handled, such as dropped in a driveway or stacked. Do not assume a delivery area or a time frame until the office confirms them. The office can also say whether you can pick wood up at the yard at 6301 US Highway 50 East, Carson City. Walk-ins are not invited without a call first.
Do you sell wood chips?
Yes, wood chips are on our service list next to firewood. Call the office about availability and pricing, because chips depend on what the crews have recently chipped. We have not published terms for delivery or amounts. Chips are useful for paths and ground cover, but not right up against a house in a fire-prone yard. See the guide on wood chips: uses and limits in a fire-prone yard.
Can I keep the wood from my own tree removal?
Yes, tell the arborist at the estimate visit. You can ask for the wood to be left, cut to a length you can handle or hauled away, and the estimate will be written to match. Fresh wood needs time to dry before it burns well. Our guide on what happens to the wood and chips covers your options. The estimate is free.
Can I bring firewood in from another state?
Be careful. Out-of-state firewood without certification is restricted in Nevada, mainly to stop the spread of pests. The Don't Move Firewood campaign lists the Nevada rules. Buying wood from a local seller avoids the problem. Ask any seller where the wood came from, and keep that in mind if a friend offers to bring wood from a trip. Our guide on don't move firewood: the Nevada rules has more detail.
Are there burn restrictions I should know about?
In Washoe County, the Know the Code burn code runs from November 1 to the end of February, with green, yellow and red days. It limits wood burning in certain heating devices on restricted days. Check the code before you light a fire. Rules change, so confirm with Northern Nevada Public Health. Our guide explains Washoe County burn codes. Other areas have their own rules.
When is firewood available?
Our site presents firewood as a winter offering, alongside snow removal. Availability changes, so call the office for what is on hand now. It is better to ask early than to wait for a cold snap. Messages left on the message box are returned within 8 hours. You can also write to the office from the contact page. We do not promise stock levels.
How do I order?
Call 775.232.8243 and ask for firewood or wood chips. You can also send the estimate form and choose firewood and wood chips as the service. Tell the office what you want, where you are and when you would like it. We accept cash and major credit cards. Pricing and availability are confirmed by the office before anything is agreed, so you know what you are getting before you commit to it.
