We remove and prune trees, grind stumps, clear lots and build defensible space here, about 54 minutes from our yard without traffic. ## Verdi at a glance - **Drive from our yard:** about 54 min 44.5 miles - **Elevation:** 4,897 ft USGS - **USDA hardiness zone:** 7a 2023 map - **Homes built before 1980:** 26% median year built 1986 - **Wildfire risk to homes:** higher than 98.8% of US communities USDA Forest Service - **Owner-occupied homes:** 89% ACS 2020-2024 Sources: drive time from our yard at 6301 US Highway 50 East, free-flow, OSRM / Census Geocoder; elevation, USGS 3DEP; hardiness zone, USDA 2023 map; housing figures, U.S. Census Bureau ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates; wildfire risk, USDA Forest Service Wildfire Risk to Communities (April 2026 data). Retrieved October 1, 2026. Verdi is small, about 1,000 people on 3.3 square miles along the Truckee River. Its trees get more water from the sky than anywhere else in the Reno area we have a gauge for. ## How much more rain does Verdi get than Reno? More than twice as much. The Reno 9.0 W station sits a fifth of a mile from Verdi's center point at 4,900 feet. Its NOAA 1991-2020 normal is 19.69 inches of precipitation a year. Reno-Tahoe International Airport records 7.35. Verdi sits close under the Sierra, and the gauges show it. More water means faster growth, taller trees close to houses and more wood to manage on each lot. The Verdi 2W station, 2 miles west and about 500 feet higher, has a mean annual temperature of 49.2 degrees. Verdi's center is at about 4,897 feet, in USDA zone 7a. ## Verdi's fire record Water grows fuel. The USDA Forest Service ranks Verdi's risk to homes above 98.8% of US communities and above about 89% of Nevada communities. A third of its buildings are in the direct exposure zone and the rest in the indirect zone. Thirty-three perimeters of 300 acres or more are mapped with a center point within about 10 miles since 1980. Three are centered within about 3.5 miles of the middle of town: the Crystal Fire of 1994, mapped at 7,392 acres, the Belli Ranch Fire of 1996, at 6,724 acres, and the Verdi Fire of 2006, at 5,662 acres. The Hawk Fire of 2026, mapped at 15,083 acres so far, is centered about 5.8 miles away. [Defensible space in Verdi](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/defensible-space/) is tree work as much as brush work: thinning crowded conifers so crowns do not touch, limbing up what stays, and removing dead trees. Our guide on [ladder fuels](https://battleborntreeservice.com/guides/ladder-fuels-limbing-up/) explains why the low limbs matter. ## A mix of old and new houses About 26% of Verdi homes were built before 1980 and about 13% before 1960. Another 26% or so were built in 2000 or later, and the median year built is 1986 (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024). With about 1,000 residents these are small-sample estimates. About 82% of homes are single-family detached and about 89% are owner-occupied. On the older lots, mature trees over the house call for [sectional removal](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/tree-removal/) or [crown pruning and dead wooding](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/tree-trimming/). On parcels being built on, the job is [lot clearing](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/lot-clearing-brush-mowing/): we fell and haul the trees, grind stumps, and can supply a backhoe or skid steer. ## Firewood and what happens to the wood About 8% of Verdi households heat mainly with wood. If we remove a tree for you and you burn wood, ask for the trunk to be left in rounds; estimates are written around what each client wants. Firewood from other places is a different matter. Uncertified firewood from out of state is restricted in Nevada, and with the state line next door that is worth knowing. See [don't move firewood: the Nevada rules](https://battleborntreeservice.com/guides/dont-move-firewood-nevada/). ## Services in Verdi - [Tree removal](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/tree-removal/) and [stump grinding](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/stump-grinding/) - [Trimming, pruning](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/tree-trimming/) and dead wooding - [Defensible space and fire mitigation](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/defensible-space/) - [Lot clearing and brush mowing](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/lot-clearing-brush-mowing/) - [Certified arborist consultations](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/arborist/) - [24-hour emergency tree service](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/emergency-tree-service/) We work on the Nevada side of the line only. ### Sources - [NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020, Reno 9.0 W (US1NVWH0019), Verdi 2W (USC00049298) and Reno-Tahoe International Airport](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals) (retrieved October 1, 2026) - [USDA Forest Service, Wildfire Risk to Communities: Verdi, NV](https://wildfirerisk.org/download/) (April 2026 data) - [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 five-year estimates, Verdi CDP](https://data.census.gov/) (retrieved October 1, 2026) - [National Interagency Fire Center, fire perimeter history and WFIGS perimeters](https://data-nifc.opendata.arcgis.com/) (retrieved October 1, 2026) - [Don't Move Firewood: Nevada](https://www.dontmovefirewood.org/map/nevada/) (read October 1, 2026) ### Fire district Fire district: [Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District](https://battleborntreeservice.com/fire-districts/truckee-meadows-fpd/) ### Services in Verdi - [Tree removal](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/tree-removal/) - [Tree trimming and pruning](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/tree-trimming/) - [Stump grinding](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/stump-grinding/) - [Emergency tree service](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/emergency-tree-service/) - [Defensible space and fire mitigation](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/defensible-space/) - [Lot clearing and brush mowing](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/lot-clearing-brush-mowing/) - [Certified arborist](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/arborist/) - [Firewood](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/verdi/firewood/) ### Talk to the office [775.232.8243](tel:775.232.8243) | Monday to Friday | 8:30 am - 5:00 pm | |---|---| | Saturday and Sunday | Office closed, phones answered | Phones answered seven days a week. 24-hour emergency service.
