Battle Born Tree Service answers [775.232.8243](tel:775.232.8243) around the clock; call 911 if anyone is injured and NV Energy if a line is down before calling us. Sun Valley sits in its own basin north of Reno and Sparks at about 4,720 feet. Its housing is unlike anywhere else we work, and that changes how an emergency job is planned. ## At a glance - About 51% of Sun Valley housing units are mobile homes - Reno WFO station, about 2 miles away: 29.7 inches of snow a year - 75-foot boom truck and crane for lifting, not dragging - About 46 minutes from our Carson City yard without traffic ## Why does the type of home matter? The American Community Survey (2020-2024) counts about 51% of Sun Valley's housing units as mobile homes, the highest share of any Washoe County community we serve. A limb that comes down on one should be lifted clear, not rolled or dragged off. Pulling it sideways can do more harm than the fall did. That is a job for a machine with reach. Our 75-foot Altec boom truck can work from the road or the driveway, and the crane can pick a whole section straight up. Which one comes is the arborist's call after hearing what you describe. ## More snow than you might expect The National Weather Service's Reno office station is about 2.2 miles from the center of Sun Valley. It averages 29.7 inches of snowfall a year, well above the 20.9 inches at the airport and the 6.8 at the Sparks station (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). Heavy snow on an unpruned tree over a roof is the failure we would most like Sun Valley owners to head off. [Dead wooding](https://battleborntreeservice.com/tree-services/dead-wooding/) and thinning before winter take the weight off. Hazard pruning can be done at any time of year. ## Old trees on small lots About a third of Sun Valley homes were in place before 1980. On a small lot, a tree that has grown for 45 years reaches over the home, the shed, the fence and the neighbor's home too. One failure can involve two households. If a neighbor's tree is on your home, make the safety calls, take photos, and read [a neighbor's tree fell on your property: who pays?](https://battleborntreeservice.com/guides/neighbors-tree-fell-who-pays/). An insurer or an attorney decides that question, not a tree company. ## Fire and wind risk on record The USDA Forest Service ranks Sun Valley's wildfire risk to homes higher than 97.7% of US communities. About 16% of buildings are in the direct exposure zone and the rest in the indirect zone, where embers are the threat. Storm debris left on the ground adds to that. We chip it and take it with us. ## When you call Say that the home is a manufactured home if it is, say what part of it the tree is on, and say whether the street in front is wide enough for a large truck. Our yard is about 37 miles away in Carson City, about 46 minutes on clear roads. We will not promise a time, and after a major storm existing clients are served first. ### Sources - [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 five-year estimates, Sun Valley CDP](https://data.census.gov/) (retrieved October 1, 2026) - [NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020, Reno WFO, Reno-Tahoe International Airport and Sparks stations](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals) (retrieved October 1, 2026) - [USDA Forest Service, Wildfire Risk to Communities](https://wildfirerisk.org/download/) (April 2026 data) - **Drive from our yard:** about 46 min 37.2 miles - **Elevation:** 4,720 ft USGS - **USDA hardiness zone:** 7b 2023 map - **Homes built before 1980:** 32% median year built 1990 Sources: drive time from our yard at 6301 US Highway 50 East, free-flow, OSRM / Census Geocoder; elevation, USGS 3DEP; hardiness zone, USDA 2023 map; housing figures, U.S. Census Bureau ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates; wildfire risk, USDA Forest Service Wildfire Risk to Communities (April 2026 data). Call [775.232.8243](tel:775.232.8243). Phones are answered seven days a week. ### Can you remove a limb from a mobile home roof in Sun Valley without more damage? That is the aim. The boom truck or crane lifts the limb clear so it is not dragged across the roof. We cannot undo damage the fall already caused. ### Is it safe to stay in my home with a tree on it? We will not tell you a home under a tree is safe. Leave it, call 911 if the structure is failing, and call us. ### My Sun Valley lot is narrow. Can a truck get in? Tell the office about the street and driveway. Where no truck fits, a climber takes the tree apart by hand. ### Do I need a permit in Sun Valley? Sun Valley is unincorporated. We have no Washoe County tree-removal permit on record for private property. Park or association rules may apply.
