Battle Born Tree Service has two ISA Certified Arborists on staff, drives about 39 minutes without traffic from Carson City, and gives free estimates. Ruhenstroth is a south-valley community of about 1,700 people at roughly 4,935 feet, hardiness zone 7a. Several of the larger fires in the region's mapped history have centers within about 10 miles. ## At a glance - Largest fires mapped nearby include 2025 Conner (17,714 acres) - USFS wildfire risk to homes higher than 96.9% of US communities - 44% of homes built in 2000 or later - About 39 minutes from our Carson City yard ## Why fire history leads a Ruhenstroth visit The NIFC perimeter history lists 24 fires of 300 acres or more since 1980 with centers within about 10 miles of Ruhenstroth, including the 2020 Numbers Fire (18,380 acres), the 1984 Indian Fire (17,771 acres) and the 2025 Conner Fire (17,714 acres). The Forest Service rates the community's wildfire risk to homes higher than 96.9% of US communities, with 30.7% of buildings in the direct exposure zone. Those numbers are why the arborist looks past the tree itself: what is growing under it, how near the house it stands and whether dead material is in the crown. ## Younger housing, planted trees The median Ruhenstroth home dates from 1996, and about 44% were built in 2000 or later, against about 20% before 1980 (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024; small community, approximate). Planted landscape trees from those years are now big enough to need structure pruning, and windbreak rows are often overdue for a look. ## Water, wind and cold The Minden station, 6.4 miles away at 4,709 feet, records about 9.3 inches of precipitation a year (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). That is dry enough that the arborist asks first about irrigation. Winter lows of 0 to 5 degrees F in zone 7a are mild for the valley, but late cold snaps can still hit new growth. ## What do you get after a Ruhenstroth walk? After the walk you get a straight answer on each tree and a personalized proposal for any work recommended. Larger properties can ask for an in-depth consultation and a tree and shrub care plan. ISA Certified Arborist WE-11728A is on staff. Call [775.232.8243](tel:775.232.8243) and the office will set a time. ## Where Ruhenstroth sits Ruhenstroth shares ZIP 89410 with Gardnerville, but sits farther out and higher, at about 4,935 feet against Gardnerville's 4,751. That difference in elevation and the open ground around the community are why we treat it as its own place in the data. The arborist works from the lot in front of them, and the proposal reflects the lot, not the ZIP code. ### Sources - [U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 five-year estimates, Ruhenstroth](https://data.census.gov/) (retrieved October 1, 2026) - [USDA Forest Service, Wildfire Risk to Communities](https://wildfirerisk.org/download/) (April 2026 data) - [NOAA NCEI U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020](https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/land-based-station/us-climate-normals) (retrieved October 1, 2026) - [National Interagency Fire Center, interagency fire perimeter history](https://data-nifc.opendata.arcgis.com/) (retrieved October 1, 2026) - [OSRM public routing server (OpenStreetMap), free-flow driving estimate from 6301 US Highway 50 East, Carson City](https://project-osrm.org/) (retrieved October 1, 2026) - **Drive from our yard:** about 39 min 26.0 miles - **Elevation:** 4,935 ft USGS - **USDA hardiness zone:** 7a 2023 map - **Homes built before 1980:** 20% median year built 1996 Sources: drive time from our yard at 6301 US Highway 50 East, free-flow, OSRM / Census Geocoder; elevation, USGS 3DEP; hardiness zone, USDA 2023 map; housing figures, U.S. Census Bureau ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates; wildfire risk, USDA Forest Service Wildfire Risk to Communities (April 2026 data).
