# Tree service at Lake Tahoe, Nevada side

Battle Born Tree Service provides tree service on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, from Incline Village and Crystal Bay down the east shore to Glenbrook, Zephyr Cove, Stateline and Kingsbury. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency requires a permit to remove most live trees over 14 inches in diameter, so tree work here starts with a tape measure.

## Towns we serve in the Lake Tahoe, Nevada side

[Incline Village Washoe County · about 48 min from our yard · 6,437 ft](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/incline-village/)[Crystal Bay Washoe County · about 53 min from our yard · 6,396 ft](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/crystal-bay/)[Glenbrook Douglas County · about 31 min from our yard · 6,243 ft](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/glenbrook/)[Zephyr Cove Douglas County · about 38 min from our yard · 6,258 ft](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/zephyr-cove/)[Stateline Douglas County · about 45 min from our yard · 6,284 ft](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/stateline/)[Kingsbury Douglas County · about 48 min from our yard · 7,126 ft](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/kingsbury/)[Round Hill Village Douglas County · about 44 min from our yard · 6,473 ft](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/round-hill-village/)[Skyland Douglas County · about 37 min from our yard · 6,269 ft](https://battleborntreeservice.com/service-areas/skyland/)

Tahoe is a conifer forest with houses in it. Jeffrey pine, white fir and incense cedar stand within a few feet of decks and roofs, the lots are steep, and the rules are stricter than anywhere else we work. Our yard in Carson City is one mountain pass away.

## How far is each Tahoe community from our yard?

Tahoe communities are about 31 to 53 minutes from our yard without traffic, with Glenbrook closest and Crystal Bay farthest. The table below gives each drive time and elevation.

| Community | Drive without traffic | Elevation |
|---|---|---|
| Glenbrook | about 31 minutes | 6,243 ft |
| Zephyr Cove | about 38 minutes | 6,258 ft |
| Stateline | about 45 minutes | 6,284 ft |
| Incline Village | about 48 minutes | 6,437 ft |
| Kingsbury | about 48 minutes | 7,126 ft |
| Crystal Bay | about 53 minutes | 6,396 ft |

Times are free-flow estimates over the Carson Range. Winter chain controls and summer traffic change them, so treat them as distance, not as an arrival time. Kingsbury, at more than 7,100 feet, is the highest community we serve.

## Why is so much Tahoe work done with a crane?

Because the trees are tall and the houses are old enough for the forest to have grown in around them. About 73% of homes in Zephyr Cove, 68% in Kingsbury and 59% in Crystal Bay were built before 1980 (U.S. Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024; these are small communities, so the figures are approximate). A pine that was a comfortable distance from a 1972 cabin now leans over it.

A crane lifts each section up and away instead of lowering it past the roof. Our own argument for the method is that it takes less time and has less impact on the surroundings. See [crane-assisted tree removal](https://battleborntreeservice.com/tree-services/crane-assisted-tree-removal/), which we offer in all six communities.

## How exposed are Tahoe homes to wildfire?

Very. The USDA Forest Service places about 99% of Glenbrook's buildings, 61% of Incline Village's and 53% of Kingsbury's in the direct-exposure zone, and ranks risk to homes in Zephyr Cove, Kingsbury and Incline Village higher than roughly 98% of US communities. The Martis Fire of 2001 is mapped at 14,429 acres within about 10 miles of Incline Village, and the Gondola Fire of 2002 at 643 acres within about 10 miles of Stateline and Kingsbury.

Defensible space here is thinning, limbing up and clearing needles and brush under the canopy, under a permit where one is needed. Both Nevada-side fire districts do defensible-space evaluations and issue those tree permits: [how to request one](https://battleborntreeservice.com/guides/free-defensible-space-evaluations-chipping/).

## What does the weather do to Tahoe trees?

It loads them. The Glenbrook station records 18.46 inches of precipitation in a normal year and Daggett Pass, at the top of Kingsbury Grade, 21.80 inches, roughly double the Carson City figure (NOAA 1991-2020 normals). The Nevada-side stations do not publish a snowfall normal. Across the lake, Tahoe City records 179.0 inches a year.

Heavy wet snow snaps tops and peels limbs. Snow removal is one of our winter services; ask whether your Tahoe address is on the snow route when you call, and see [snow and ice removal](https://battleborntreeservice.com/tree-services/snow-removal/).

### Rules here

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) requires a permit to remove a live tree over 14 inches in diameter at breast height, measured 4.5 feet above the ground. On lakeshore lots the limit is 6 inches for trees between the house and the lake. Removing a dead tree that could fall on a house does not need a permit.

For defensible space, the fire district issues the tree permit after a free evaluation: North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District for Incline Village and Crystal Bay, and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District for Glenbrook, Zephyr Cove, Stateline and Kingsbury. The agency decides. Use the diameter checker on our Tahoe pages, then read [the 14-inch rule and how to measure DBH](https://battleborntreeservice.com/guides/tahoe-tree-removal-permits-dbh/).

## Lake Tahoe, Nevada side questions

Still have a question? Call [775.232.8243](tel:775.232.8243). Phones are answered seven days a week.

### Do you work in South Lake Tahoe or Tahoe City?

No. We work on the Nevada side only: Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Glenbrook, Zephyr Cove, Stateline and Kingsbury.

### Who gets the Tahoe tree permit, me or the tree service?

Start with TRPA or your fire district, because the agency decides. We can measure the trees, tell you which are over the limit and which agency to contact, and do the work once you have the approval.

### Can a dead tree at Tahoe come down without a permit?

TRPA says removing a dead tree that could fall on a house does not need a permit. For a conifer, dead means no green needles. If you are unsure, ask TRPA or your fire district before cutting.

### Is there 24-hour emergency tree service at Lake Tahoe?

Yes, on the Nevada side. If anyone is hurt call 911, and if a power line is involved stay away and call NV Energy. Then call [775.232.8243](tel:775.232.8243).
