Position. The USDA Forest Service puts about 75% of Genoa's buildings in the direct exposure zone, meaning they stand in or next to wildland vegetation. In Minden, out on the valley floor, the figure is about 11%. In Genoa the mountain's trees and brush come down to the back fences, and the lanes that serve the houses run through them. So a storm here blocks things. A tree across Foothill Road or Jacks Valley Road is a county or state road matter and a 911 call.
