# Who is on site for a crane removal?

A crew sets up the crane, a climber works in the tree and the crane operator holds each piece before it is lifted away. A certified arborist assesses every job before work begins.

## The roles on the job

From our process description: the crew picks the setup location and places the outriggers, a climber attaches the crane to the tree at the cut point, the operator takes the weight and the piece is flown to the drop zone. Ground crew handle the pieces and the chipper. Our crew is eight people, including two ISA Certified Arborists and six tree removal experts.

## What the rules add

Federal rules for cranes working near power lines call for a trained, dedicated spotter in continuous contact with the operator when that is the method used to keep clearance. OSHA's rule (29 CFR 1926.1408) sets a minimum clearance of 10 feet for lines up to 50 kV, unless the line is shut off and grounded. Which steps apply to your site depends on the lines near it.

## What we do not publish

We do not name individual crew members on the site, and we have not published which people take which role. The owner is Michael Orlick, and customers call him Mike. Ask the office who will be on your job. They can tell you before the day.

If a power line touches the tree, stay away and call NV Energy first. If anyone is hurt, call 911.

Keep in mind that the crew on site depends on the job. A simple lift may need fewer people and a complex one more, and the office can say what to expect when you book. Stay inside or well back during the lift. The crew will have set up a work zone, and the safest place for homeowners, children and pets is outside it. If you have questions during the job, ask the crew leader when there is a pause, not in the middle of a lift.
