These are wages paid to workers, not what a tree job costs. NAICS 561730 counts landscaping and tree services together; there is no tree-only code. [Download this table (CSV)](https://battleborntreeservice.com/data/tree-care-wages-and-businesses/tree-care-wages-and-businesses.csv)

The table combines two federal sources: what the government says tree trimmers and pruners are paid, and how many landscaping and tree service businesses operate in each county. These are wages paid to workers, not prices charged to customers.

## What the dataset is

The wage rows come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics survey, occupation code 37-3013, tree trimmers and pruners, using the latest release, 2025. The business rows come from the Census Bureau's County Business Patterns for 2023, industry code NAICS 561730, which counts landscaping services and tree services together. There is no tree-only code, so the counts include lawn and landscape firms.

Where the government does not publish a figure, the table says not published. That applies to employment in the Reno area and to every figure for the Carson City area.

## What stands out

- Nationally 55,160 people work as tree trimmers and pruners, with a median wage of $50,960 a year, or $24.50 an hour. In Nevada the figures are about 190 workers, $51,210 a year and $24.62 an hour.
- The Reno metropolitan area median is $62,710 a year, or $30.15 an hour, the highest row in the table.
- Washoe County has 227 landscaping and tree service businesses with 1,986 employees, about nine employees per business. Carson City has 43 businesses and 159 employees, Douglas County 35 and 159, Lyon County 19 and 117, and Churchill County 4 and 7.
- Nevada as a whole has 834 businesses and 10,949 employees, or about 13 per business.

## How a homeowner can use this

The wage figures show that climbing and cutting is skilled, physical work that the government tracks as its own occupation. They do not tell you what a job should cost, and nothing here should be read as a price. Costs depend on the tree, access, the equipment needed and the disposal, and the only reliable way to learn them is an on-site estimate. See [how much tree removal costs](https://battleborntreeservice.com/guides/tree-removal-cost/) for national public figures and [how to read a tree service estimate](https://battleborntreeservice.com/guides/how-to-read-a-tree-service-estimate/).

The business counts show how many firms of this broad type share the market in your county, which is one reason to compare more than one estimate. Ask each firm for proof of insurance ([what to ask for](https://battleborntreeservice.com/guides/tree-service-proof-of-insurance/)) and, if the work calls for a certified arborist, a credential you can check ([how to verify an ISA Certified Arborist](https://battleborntreeservice.com/guides/what-is-an-isa-certified-arborist/)).

## Limits of the data

Wage figures describe employees, so they do not cover owner-operators, and they do not include employer costs like insurance, equipment and fuel. The business counts are as of 2023 and include landscaping firms. Neither source describes the quality of any company's work.
